Goa eyeing investment opportunities – GulfToday

The state of Goa is set to showcase its tourism prowess and business opportunities available in the state to global investors during its participation in the India Pavilion at EXPO2020 Dubai.

The State Floor was inaugurated on Saturday by J. Ashok Kumar, Secretary to the Chief Minister, Sports and Youth Affairs, Tourism, Industries, Trade and Commerce, Handicrafts, Textile and Coconut Fiber, Sanjay Kumar, Secretary – Income, IT, Labor and Employment and Swetika Sachan, Director, Directorate of Industries, Government of Goa at India Pavilion Dubai EXPO2020.

Inaugurating the State Floor, J. Ashok Kumar said, “Goa State is proud to be part of EXPO2020. The state looks forward to this opportunity to showcase its vibrant culture and invite investors to explore our key sectors of interest such as agribusiness and food processing, IT and knowledge industry, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology and tourism.

Sanjay Kumar said, “IT is a major push area in the state.

We have progressive policies such as IT Policy 2017 and Startup Policy 2021 with attractive incentive packages. We have also developed a new electronic manufacturing cluster where plots of various sizes are available for assignment.

Swetika Sachan, CEO of the Goa Investment Promotion and Facilitation Board, said, “I look forward to connecting with the Goan diaspora in the region and discussing the investment potential of the state. IPB is Goa’s one-stop agency, and we are here to offer the desired support to those looking to Goa for their next investment.

Goa will make a strong case for global investors by showcasing its business capabilities as well as its tradition and culture through a series of events showcasing opportunities in key sectors including education, tourism, financial services, pharmaceuticals and biotechnology, agriculture and food. At the inaugural event in Goa, Tadu Mamu, Consul – Press, Information, Culture and Labour, said, “Goa is one of the most attractive tourist destinations in India and one of the upcoming investment destinations offering great opportunities. The Goa Week at India Pavilion will host various business meetings and cultural events showcasing the prowess of the state in different sectors.

The Goa week will also see industry-specific expert sessions, panel discussions, B2B and G2G meetings as well as cultural performances by renowned artists and Goan Band.

Goa is the smallest state in the country with rich heritage, serene atmosphere and well-developed infrastructure. Goa’s economic growth is driven by the strong performance of its industrial sectors such as tourism, fisheries, agriculture and pharmaceuticals.

Tourism is the backbone of the state’s economy, with 40% of the population depending directly or indirectly on it. The state has recently crafted a new tourism policy to provide a unique Goa experience to visitors by presenting a versatile concoction of historical, natural, ethnic and cultural places and attractions.

Goa Week will end on January 20, 2022.

A day earlier, Francisco Andre, Portugal’s Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, said the United Arab Emirates had defied the global pandemic with Expo 2020 Dubai, bringing together 192 countries while applying strict precautionary measures to ensure the health and safety of all involved.

He made the above statements during the celebration of Portugal’s National Day at Expo 2020 Dubai in the presence of Reem bint Ibrahim Al Hashemy, Minister of State for International Cooperation and Managing Director of Expo 2020 Dubai .

Portugal celebrated with a packed itinerary of cultural performances, attended by André, Lu’s Castro, Commissioner General of Portugal at Expo 2020 Dubai, and several Emirati and Portuguese officials.

The celebration included performances of Portuguese folk music, which the attendees enjoyed.

During the event, André hailed the UAE leadership’s vision, saying, “The UAE and Portugal share deep-rooted diplomatic ties and relations, and we aim to strengthen our economic and international relations. investment in the near future.
