Carpool Karaoke returns to The Late Late Show after a two-year hiatus

Carpool Karaoke is finally back after a two-year hiatus.

James Corden, host of The Late Late Show, Twitter Friday to reveal that his popular skit was back on April 6 after being suspended due to the coronavirus pandemic and resulting social distancing restrictions.

In a clip teasing the return of recurring segments, the TV presenter revealed his first guest as singing superstar Nicki Minaj as the duo sang the rapper’s 2014 hit “Anaconda” in the teaser.

The short video announces that after two years of not being able to sit in a very confined and closed space, “social distancing is over”.

James also revealed that Camila Cabello will be featured on the segment, making her appearance on a show airing on April 18.

The TV stars’ old friend, Niall Horan, was the last star to carpool through Los Angeles in March 2020 before the pandemic put the cultural phenomenon on hold.

The close friends sang songs from Niall’s new album Heartbreak Weather as James helped the Irish singer come to terms with his fear of pigeons.

International singing sensation Justin Bieber was also in the hot seat in February 2020 as the duo discussed his marriage to Hailey Bieber and of course sang some of Justin’s new music and even some classic tunes.

Beatles icon Paul McCartney jumped into the passenger seat in June 2018 as the legendary crooner visited his childhood home and dissected the band’s iconic fashion on the special London edition of The Late Late Show.

In December 2019, James then invited superstar Billie Eilish for a ride as they headed into the carpool lane, singing his hits Ocean Eyes and Bad Guy.

The couple ended up taking a detour to visit his house and his pet spider.

The English actor has become a huge hit in the United States since landing roles in Hollywood films such as Into the Woods in 2014 and eventually becoming the host of The Late Late Show from 2015.

Earlier this year, the comedian was forced to cancel tapings of his hit CBS show after testing positive for coronavirus.

On January 6, he took to Instagram to reveal that he had tested positive for a breakthrough case of COVID-19.

He wrote: “Just tested positive for COVID 19. I’m fully vaccinated, boosted and thanks to that I’m lucky to say I feel perfectly fine.”

James told his followers that his CBS program “will be on hiatus for the next few days” while he is quarantined.

He concluded the post by writing, “Stay safe everyone. All my love, James x.’

Prior to his coronavirus diagnosis, the British comedian hosted guests Aaron Sorkin and Sophia Bush, Lily Collins, William Jackson Harper and St. Vincent and Jessica Chastain, Penelope Cruz and Andrew Sleighter.

The Late Late Show is taped in Los Angeles, where Los Angeles County officials reported a record 37,215 new cases in the area on the same day.

The announcement came after a number of his fellow late-night hosts also revealed they had tested positive for COVID-19, including The Tonight Show host Jimmy Fallon and Late host. Night with Seth Meyers Seth Meyers.

Fallon, 47, took to Instagram on Monday to detail his health battle, along with a photo of him sitting in a testing room.

“Hey guys, the first day of our vacation I tested positive for Covid,” Fallon said. “I was vaccinated and reboosted, which gave me the chance to have only mild symptoms.

“Thank you to the doctors and nurses who work so hard around the clock to keep everyone vaxxed. Thanks to NBC for taking the testing protocols so seriously and doing a great job.

Meyers, 48, revealed his diagnosis on Tuesday, writing, “The bad news is I tested positive for COVID (thanks, 2022!) The good news is I’m feeling fine (thanks vaccines and the reminder!). We’re canceling the rest of the shows this week, so tune in next Monday to see what cool place we’ll be trying to impersonate a studio!!!’
