Taste of Santee opens Thursday

The Santee Chamber of Commerce hosts the 33rd Annual Taste of Santee from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at Pathways Community Church, 9626 Carlton Hills Blvd. Sample food and drink offerings from local restaurants and shops. This annual tradition brings the community together to help Santee businesses give back to residents in need. Tickets cost $ 15 for chamber members, $ 20 for non-members. The lakeside Christmas event is Saturday

The Lakeside Chamber of Commerce is hosting its annual Spirit of Christmas event from 3:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Saturday on Maine Avenue in historic downtown Lakeside. This free community event is supported by the Barona Band of Mission Indians, Barona Resort & Casino and Skyline Church. The evening will feature Santa Claus and his friends from the North Pole (including special snow princesses), live performances from the Lakeside Union School District, a lighted tree at 5 p.m., hot food and drinks, shopping from local vendors and activities for children. Young people are encouraged to drop letters to Santa Claus in the special North Pole letterbox (don’t forget to attach a stamped return envelope to your address). ‘Holiday in the Village’ is Saturday

The La Mesa Village Association is holding its sixth annual “Village Vacation” from noon to 9 pm Saturday on La Mesa Boulevard, between Spring and Fourth Streets. Improve your holiday spirit at this free celebration while enjoying carnival games, Christmas carols, stalls of craft vendors, and food and drink from local favorites. Holiday Craft Fair is looking for craftsmen

The Mt. Miguel High School Foundation is looking for artisans for its Holiday Craft Fair, which will take place on December 18 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 8585 Blossom Lane, Spring Valley. Funds raised through the craft sale help the foundation support school activities, including Parent Boosters Club and Music & Specialty Corps, student clubs and scholarships, and more. Extended deadline for arts commission

The city of La Mesa has extended the application deadline for its new Arts & Culture Commission. This commission will focus on the promotion of the arts, as well as the historical, aesthetic and cultural aspects of the community, and on the promotion of diversity, equity and inclusion. The required members are two arts educators (one from kindergarten to grade 8, one from grade 9 to college), one member each representing the visual, performing and musical arts; and two members at large. Santee’s winter recreation now open

Registration for the Santee Parks and Recreation winter programming is now open. New classes include yoga for all ages, as well as a CPR / first aid certification course run by the Santee Fire Department. Tiny Tots is also coming back. , so reserve your spot early. La Mesa is hosting an elimination event on Saturday

La Mesa organizes free disposal of household hazardous waste for residents by appointment only from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. Household hazardous waste includes all batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, electronics, paints, solvents, cleaners, chemicals, used motor oil and antifreeze, medical sharps (syringes), chemicals pool and garden and propane.
