Mercer Employees Recognized at the 2022 Cultural Awards

Bob Mavity of the Grand Opera House, Amy Schwartz Moretti of the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings selected as two of five winners

MACON — Two Mercer University employees, Bob Mavity and Amy Schwartz Moretti, will be recognized for their service to Central Georgia’s cultural life at the 2022 Cultural Awards, presented by Macon Arts Alliance on Oct. 27 at the Mill Hill Community Arts Center .

The Macon Arts Alliance’s annual Cultural Awards recognize individuals, organizations, and businesses that have made a significant contribution to the cultural life of Central Georgia through their work or philanthropic efforts. This prestigious event honors only a few recipients each year, with five winners receiving awards in 2022.

Mavity is Senior Technical Director of the Grand Opera House. He began his career at the site in 1994, before Mercer acquired management of The Grand.

In this capacity, Mavity oversees all venue facility operations and serves as designer and in-house production manager for local traditions such as Central Georgia’s Nutcracker and the Macon Civic Club, as well as national tours and rentals. . Outside of her work at The Grand, Mavity volunteers to assist productions at central Georgia locations, frequently assisting other local technicians and special events. He also sits on the board of the Macon Film Festival.

Moretti is Artistic Director of the Robert McDuffie Center for Strings and Caroline Paul King Chair in Strings at Townsend School of Music.

In addition to her performances as an orchestral soloist and concertmaster, Moretti is an award-winning chamber music artist, appearing in concert series and at music festivals in North America, Europe and Asia. She is a member of the internationally renowned Ehnes Quartet. Moretti developed and organizes the Fabian Concert Series on the Mercer campus, featuring internationally renowned artists in chamber music concerts and master classes. Among his performances on many prestigious stages and his multiple distinctions, Moretti was selected as one of the Musical America Top 30 professionals of the year in 2018.
