Migos to headline 2022 Pepsi National Battle of The Bands presented by Toyota
GRAMMY®– nominated hip-hop group with Quavo and Takeoff to perform after the group’s presentation
HOUSTON, July 27, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — The Pepsi National Battle of the Bands presented by Toyota (NBOTB) today announced the GRAMMY®-nominated rap group migos will headline their 2022 event with a performance after the final group competition of the weekend. migos is a multi-platinum hip-hop group founded in Atlanta in trio with Quavo, Offset and Takeoff. The iconic hip-hop trio have amassed over 3.3 billion streams of their hit songs on Spotify, including “Stir Fry”, “Walk It Talk It” and “Bad and Boujee”. Previously, Migos made history by tying the Beatles for the most simultaneous entries on the Billboard Hot 100 song chart among bands (with 14 songs on the chart) according to Nielsen Music. NBOTB is recognized as the annual kickoff to fall marching band season, featuring new performances from the nation’s top marching bands and providing unparalleled exposure to talent from historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs).
“The addition of world-renowned hip-hop group Migos to the 2022 National Battle of the Bands lineup is a massive step, fusing popular hip-hop with the spirit and soul of the music produced by the best HBCU marching bands in our country,” said Derek Webber, Executive Producer, National Battle of the Bands. “We’re thrilled that viewers can see the iconic band’s showcase and a top-notch hip hop performance with the same ticket.”
The addition of a Migos is a first for the NBOTB, which has never featured a major internationally acclaimed artist during the weekend of the event. NBOTB management believes this helps propel the event further into the mainstream while maintaining its rich history and unique place in culture. The additional visibility provided by Migos should help raise the profile of NBOTB, translating into exposure for HBCU groups, scholarships and global awareness. This aligns with NBOTB’s mission to enhance the exposure of HBCUs and their marching bands, the roles they play in educating aspiring musicians and developing future leaders.
HBCUs are known for their rich history of robust scholars, social and community activism, dedicated alumni, and soulful marching bands. The performance of an HBCU marching band is as much about music as it is movement, channeling the boundless spirit of the institutions they represent. The Battle of the Bands is an iconic tradition, not only among HBCUs, but also as a staple of American culture. NBOTB is proud to have Migos join them in continuing this historic musical and cultural movement.
