Mohammed Bin Rashid Library shares a glimpse inside the venue

The largest library in the Arab world will soon open its doors…

We here at What’s new eagerly awaited updates on the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library. We first published an article about it in January 2016, which, if you don’t remember, was the year of reading. Now, after years of eagerly waiting, we have an update that the library will open this year.

If you’re as excited as we are, read on to see…

What we know about the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library

The library is located in Al Jaddaf and has a unique and eye-catching structure. It was designed to look like an open book sitting on a rehl (a traditional lectern that holds the Quran.)

It may not look like it, but the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library has seven floors.

A video shared by Mohammed Bin Rashid Library on its official Instagram gives us a quick look at the 54,000 square meter space.

For avid readers reading this article, there will be nine specialized libraries inside the space “where you can enjoy reading and nurture your creativity.”

A previous post on the Instagram of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Library tells us that there is a general library space, a library for young adults, a children’s library (colored), a library dedicated to maps and atlases, a media and art library, a corporate library, an Emirates library, a periodicals library and another called “Treasure of the Library” which looks like an exhibition space displaying books.

The library will offer smart, digital services and be one of the most technologically advanced libraries in the world. The video says the library has embraced the latest technologies including smart robots, augmented and virtual reality, and more. There appears to be a unique book delivery system that can be seen delivering a book to a reader.

But not all floors are just filled with books. There’s a lot more inside, making the attraction so much more than just a basic library. We were told that there will also be theaters and several spaces for events, activities, educational and cultural festivals and exhibitions.

We can’t wait to get in and check out this reading haven.
