TWENTY-NINE arts and culture organizations and arts centers in Canberra have received more than $9 million in annual arts funding under ACT’s new Arts Organization Investment Scheme, announced today (9 November) Arts Minister Tara Cheyne.
In particular, this has meant increased funding for eight organizations that run arts centers in Canberra, new multi-year funding for three organisations: Contour 556 (Canberra Art Biennial), Luminescence Chamber Singers and The Stellar Company and multi-year funding for organizations . and practices supporting diversity.
Major grants include $720,000 to Arts Capital Ltd, which operates the Ainslie and Gorman Arts Centres; $900,000 to the Belconnen Arts Center; $850,000 to Canberra Glassworks; $950,000 to The Stagemaster Inc, which operates The Street Theater and $860,000 to Tuggeranong Community Arts Association Inc, which operates the Tuggeranong Arts Centre.
The greater certainty, Cheyne said, would enable organizations to provide sector development, career pathways for artists and arts workers, support a diversity of activities, and provide opportunities for access and engagement. .
Applications were assessed by ArtsACT and industry experts.
The full list of successful candidates is as follows:
Arts Center Investment – Funding for up to five years
- Arts Capital Ltd $720,000, management of the Ainslie and Gorman arts centres, including services to resident artists and arts organizations and promotion of center activities.
- Belconnen Arts Center Inc. $900,000, management of the Belconnen Arts Center and delivery of community arts and cultural development programs in Belconnen and Gungahlin.
- Canberra Glassworks Ltd $850,000, management of Canberra Glassworks and provision of programs and services for the creation and display of workshop glassware.
- Canberra Potters Society Inc $200,000, management of the Watson Arts Center and delivery of ceramics programs and services to support all levels of ceramics practice.
- PhotoAccess Inc $280,000, management of the Manuka Arts Center and delivery of contemporary photographic/multimedia programs and exhibits.
- Strathnairn Arts Association Inc $200,000, management of the Strathnairn Arts Center and delivery of visual arts programs and services, including ceramics and bronze at all levels of practice.
- The Stagemaster Inc $950,000, management of street theater and delivery of professional development programs and productions for local theater artists.
- Tuggeranong Community Arts Association Inc $860,000, management of the Tuggeranong Arts Center and delivery of community arts and cultural development programs in Tuggeranong and Woden.
Investment in Arts Organizations – Funding for up to four years
- ACT Writers Center Inc $185,000, Delivering professional development programs for Canberra writers at all levels and promoting their work.
- Ausdance ACT Inc $150,000, To provide support for independent professional dancers and provide accessible, high-quality dance programs across all genres.
- Australian Dance Party Ltd $100,000, professional dance company, creating new contemporary dance work for local dance artists.
- Canberra Contemporary Art Space Inc, Visual Providing opportunities for emerging and established artists to create and present contemporary visual art and participate in audience programs.
- Canberra International Music Festival Ltd $92,000, Presenting an annual classical and contemporary music/fine arts festival.
- Canberra Symphony Orchestra Ltd $615,000, Presenting a program of classical music concerts and performances, including community access programs.
- The Canberra Youth Theater Inc $300,000, Providing creative opportunities for young people through theater workshops, productions and creative journeys.
- Craft ACT: Craft and Design Center Inc. $410,000, provides contemporary craft and design programs and exhibits for local artists.
- Girls Rock! Canberra Inc $70,000, To provide opportunities for participation in contemporary music for young people with marginalized gender identities.
- M16 Inc $70,000, provides an exhibition program for local visual artists.
- Megalo Access Arts Inc $370,000, Provides access to print media equipment as well as professional development programs and exhibits.
- MusicACT Inc $125,000, providing professional development programs and services to contemporary musicians and bands.
- Music For Canberra Inc $300,000, providing classical music performances and participation programs for all levels and abilities.
- QL2 Dance Inc $360,000, To provide dance development and performance opportunities for youth and independent dance artists.
- Rebus Theater Inc $100,000, provides inclusive and accessible theater creation and presentation opportunities for people of all abilities.
- Screen Canberra Ltd $150,000, Provides professional development programs and opportunities for local screen practitioners.
- Warehouse Circus Inc. $150,000, provides development programs and services for emerging circus/physical theater artists.
- You Are Here Canberra Inc $80,000, provides professional development and presentation opportunities for local contemporary artists and producers.
Investment in Emerging Arts Organizations – Funding over two + two years
- Contour 556 Ltd (Canberra Art Biennial) $50,000, Organization of a biennial festival of contemporary visual arts in public spaces.
- Luminescence Chamber Singers Inc $40,000, provides vocal/choral development programs and performances
- The Stellar Company $40,000, Develop and present inclusive dance activities for people of all levels, ages and backgrounds.
