Ryan Murphy Shows Nab Netflix Renewals

Netflix has officially ordered two more seasons of producer and creator Ryan Murphy’s true crime anthology drama Freak. The renewal comes after the successful and record start of its first season Dahmer: The Story of Jeffrey Dahmerwhich is on track to reach 1 billion hours of viewing in the coming weeks.

Additionally, the streamer also renewed another of Murphy’s most recent shows, The Observer, for a second season.

“The audience can’t take their eyes off Freak and The Observer“, Bela Bajaria, head of global television at Netflix, said in a statement. “The creative team of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan on Freakwith Eric Newman on The Observer, are masterful storytellers who have captivated audiences around the world. The back-to-back strength of these two series is due to Ryan’s distinct original voice, which has created cultural sensations, and we’re excited to continue telling stories in the Freak and Observer universe”.

Freak is co-created and produced by longtime collaborators Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan. The next installments of Freak will tell the stories of other monstrous characters who have impacted society.

The first season starred Evan Peters (american horror story), Niecy Nash (Scream Queens), Penelope Ann Miller (American crime), Shaun J. Brown (To run) and Colin Ford (Dawn), as well as Oscar winner Richard Jenkins.

The Observer hails from Murphy, Brennan and Eric Newman. The first season starred Naomi Watts, Bobby Cannavale, Jennifer Coolidge, Margo Martindale, Mia Farrow and many more.

“After the Brannock family move into what was supposed to be their suburban dream home, it quickly becomes hell,” the synopsis reads. “Ominous letters from someone who calls himself ‘The Watcher’ are just the beginning as the neighborhood’s sinister secrets spill out.”
