The Cultural Alliance of Saint Lucia launches a musical series

The Soul-Tyme group

The St. Lucia Cultural Alliance will launch its new musical series on January 13 at the 500 Orange Event Center with “Marvelous: The Music of Marvin Gaye” featuring the band Soul-Tyme. The cabaret club-style series will take over the newly renovated event center, with a full cash liquor bar, small plates from the Bonner Mobile Bar, and rotating exhibits by members of the Cultural Alliance Art Guild add to the exquisite experience.

The Soul-Tyme Band, made up of nationally recognized local musicians from the Southern Soul Society, will take viewers on a musical journey through the life of Marvin Gaye. The band members shared the stage and worked with legends including Celine Dion, Bo Diddley, Archie Bell, Clarence Carter, NSYNC, Chaka Khan, Hall & Oates, Michael Bolton, Patti Labelle, Earth Wind & Fire and Cy Coleman.

Southern Soul Society is a member of the Cultural Alliance and a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation and proliferation of Soul music. Singer and band founder Will Vaughn is excited to spotlight one of the soul era’s most gifted and revolutionary singer-songwriters, and to sing famous hits like “Let’s Get It On “,” Ain’t No Mountain High Enough “,” Sexual Healing “,” Heard It Through The Grapevine “,” What’s Going On “and many more that defined Gaye’s sound.

“There is nothing quite like live soul music,” Vaughn says. “Music that doesn’t just make you stomp or hum, but that gets you up and dancing.” “

Vaughn has worked with renowned blues and soul legends like Bo Diddley, Bobby Blue Bland and Archie Bell, and remains one of the most versatile soul singers on the Treasure Coast. The Soul-Tyme Band is made up of Les Paultre on guitar, Gary Palmer on saxophone, Gary Haase on bass, John Degory on organ, Curtis Wright on drums and Angie J on vocals. Everyone is an accomplished musical performer in their own right.

“St. Lucie County is the cultural gem of the Treasure Coast,” said Alyona Ushe, Executive Director of St. Lucie Cultural Alliance. “This musical series is another way for us to spotlight some wildly talented cultural innovators in our own backyard.”
