UWGB’s Weidner Center announces lineup and unveils new logo

GREEN BAY – The Weidner Center unveiled its lineup of shows on Wednesday, along with a new logo and renamed website.

The lineup announcement, which includes nine events, features the most diverse lineup of performances in the Weidner Center’s 30-year history, according to a Weidner Center press release.

“The Weidner is a cultural treasure for our community and through it, UW-Green Bay is fortunate to be able to provide exceptional arts and cultural programs for the region we serve,” said University of Wisconsin Chancellor- Green Bay, Michael Alexander, in a statement. . “As our university strives to achieve equitable access to education, The Weidner plays a key role in providing equitable access to the arts for all. With its first new logo in 30 years and a slate of new programs for this fall and winter, The Weidner at UW-Green Bay is in full swing!

Among the nine performances in the lineup are Indigenous artists Mike + Bonewho first came to prominence on “America’s Got Talent” and most recently appeared on the Hulu series “Reservation Dogs”, and Supaman, which combines hip hop, comedy, dance and Native American culture in its shows. This season, Step Afrika!, an African-American dance company that incorporates song, storytelling, and audience participation into every performance, and “Unhinged,” an interactive, self-guided arts event that allows attendees to explore the art, will also be coming to the Weidner Center this season. installations and performances located around the Weidner Center.

“The rebranding is a great way to mark an important chapter in our history as we reflect on what it means to bring the arts to everyone. This is reflected not only in the programs that take place in our building, but also in this that we can do outside of our building as well,” Weidner Center executive and artistic director Kelli Strickland said in a statement.

Part of the UW-Green Bay campus, The Weidner features a 2,000-seat main hall, as well as two smaller performance spaces, a dance studio, and a Grand Foyer. It is home to UW-Green Bay music, theater and dance programs, community events and productions, and performances by guest artists and touring companies.

Along with the lineup announced on Wednesday, another Weidner Center recently revealed that another big name will hit the stage in the fall: comedian John Mulaney.

  • April 22 – Weidner Philharmonic: “Power and Joy”
